According to the website which is expathomes.com.my, Malaysia ranked top in Asia in terms of quality living standards with affordable living cost. Its modern infrastructure and facilities offer an easy relaxing lifestyle.
Living in Malaysia has improved from back when in 1970s living is just merely having purchased a house at a location which is closer to the workplace. Considerations given in those days may perhaps include enough rooms for the kids (divided into boys and girls at least) in addition to a master bedroom (no attached bathroom mostly, mind you!), a living and dining area, two bathrooms would be sufficient and a fairly sized kitchen. I don’t think much thought was given in whether it has a large lawn but a one-car size porch would be just enough. And these houses were mostly single-storey.
But that evolves. Nowadays, a well-sufficient family would want an at least a double-storey house, a master bedroom en suite, bedrooms and bathrooms for the kids, the regular kitchen, living and dining but an additional family room / TV room.
Having bought the house which has the above characters, then comes in the decoration planning. Whether be it to follow the traditional, modern / fusion or resort style, these imply that a living is no longer plain, it has turned into a lifestyle. They are planning for a lifestyle.
It is a lifestyle when one wants to have an almost cinematic equivalent entertainment / TV room. The same goes when one wants to experience peace and resort feeling when coming back home by having a fish pond in the garden, or a resort style furniture in the living room. Or possibly being able to host a garden party and take advantage of the beautiful weather on this part of the continent, by having a reasonable size garden with well-planned integration of indoor and outdoor spaces.
However it maybe, bare living has changed. It shifts into lifestyle living.
Stay tune as my next article will be looking into outdoor living.

Rain water harvesting system by Grundfos

Remember the article that we featured back in February on the rain water harvesting? Well, there is a more simpler way if you want to go green.
Grundfos, one of the world's largest pump manufacturer, introduced their range of Grundfos PG and PGC rainwater harvesting system which is to recycle rainwater for residential housing and commercial buildings. It is a highly efficient, low maintenance system suitable for homes as it always prioritizing the use of rainwater. The PG will automatically switch over to a mains water or alternative water source when your rainwater tank runs low, or during electrical failure.

Modern Design Houses
Modern design houses nowadays sometimes remind us of 70s look, very structured and squarish. We love this modern-designed house, featured in one of the website.
Take a look at the Merlimau Green House Design which is in Singapore. You will immediately notice the modern design that is fresh, spacious and bright. The slanted partly glass roof is very dramatic, enough to provoke interest of passers-by to peep inside.
We love the idea of having an elevated swimming pool instead of the regular. This house captures the idea beautifully as one can only imagine the breeze while swimming in this lap pool with beautiful tiles. Notice the frangipani tree planted on small green area? That is just enough to bring out the "spa feeling".
The design of the house also incorporates a rather sizable koi pond, judging from the picture below. Look at the wooden decking in the picture, that is the pond filter.

A must-have trees for modern houses - tower trees, bucida and elephant fern.
Finally, don't you just wish that you are standing at the edge of the pool now and ready to dip in?

Recycling Rain Water
Nowadays everywhere you turn, you will see the word "recycle". Recycling habit is rather new in Malaysia due to its awareness level which is still relatively low in comparison with other western countries.
Why not start the recycling habit from the simplest task which is recycling rain water. Rain water harvesting is the accumulating and storing of rainwater which later can be recycled for watering the garden, washing cars etc. With Malaysia's climate receives an average of 2409 mm (94.8 inches) of rainfall yearly, or an average of 201 mm (7.9 inches) monthly, anyone can easily start the habit.
Take the simplest method such as below to start your own rainwater harvesting. Begin with a suitable covered water barrel which is placed at the end of the house gutter system. Make sure that the barrel is out of the direct sunlight as sunlight will cause water algae. You may also install a fine wire mesh screen that filters out dry leaves and prevent mosquitoes breeding.

Don't forget to inspect and clean the barrel frequently.

Pergola
A pergola is a garden feature forming a shaded walk or passageway of pillars that support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, upon which woody vines are trained. As a type of gazebo, it may also be an extension of a building, or serve as protection for an open terrace or a link between pavilions.
In Malaysia, pergola is mostly covered with polycarbonate materials. What we have designed and built for our customers so far as as the pictures below.
The beauty of the chosen pergola lies in its wood cut. The one in the picture below resembles traditional designs.
We share this website which elaborates Pergola in details.

15 of the World's Coolest Swimming Pools
Today, we feature a few of the coolest swimming pools in the world, which we linked to one of our friendly website, Furniture Fashion
One that is very interesting in particular is the biggest swimming pool in the world which is the San Alfonso del Mar, a resort in Chile.
The swimming pool itself is a 1,000-metre long, 19-acre outdoor pool and have a depth of 35 metres, thus making it the deepest pool in the world.
The resort’s large pool utilizes a technology developed by the Chilean company Crystal Lagoons, using a new technology in water treatment, filtration and chlorination. The water is pumped in from the Pacific Ocean and treated before being pumped into the pool. The water temperature is kept at 26°C.

Disguising the Pool Pump (or simply making it less noticeable)
The basic “machine”, the heart and the most important item to run a pool, is the pump. Hideous as it may looks, the swimming pool pump and filter system is essential for its operations. One may have spent thousands for a “designer” pool.
If the hired contractor is a bit absent-minded and placed the pool pump in sight, fret not. There are cheap and simple ways that you can choose to hide the bulk.
Treat it as one of the gardening activities; you can plant shrubs around the pump. It is so easy that within months, the pump would be unnoticed. Next question would be the type of suitable shrubs.
We suggest the following - Calathea Lutea and Murrayya.

Murraya |
Fast facts on Calathea Lutea · Growth heights of up to 2.5 – 3 metres · Gives up to 15% shades | Fast facts on Murrayya · Growth heights up to 3 metres · The plant has a dense and glossy, dark green foliage, and makes an excellent privacy screen or hedge · With pleasant fragrant flowers |
If it is a Jacuzzi pump, which is a lot smaller, make a cover to cover it up. The cover may be made of wood. This is what we did for one of our project where we really need to hide the Jacuzzi pump. The Jacuzzi is located in the prominent area of the garden and there is no way of having the pump near the entrance or too close to the gate, fear for it being conveniently “snatched”.
The wooden pump cover, in the end, also serves as table or sitting area whichever the owner choose to utilize it. We are happy that the owner is happy with the solution.
Till next time,..
